Sculpture Quadrennial Riga 2008 – Dictatorship of the Majority”

At the exhibition of Sculpture Quadrennial Riga 2008 (August 29 – October 10, 2008) in Riga public space, mainly in suburb of Latgale (one of districts in Riga) are viewable 15 artworks, which are chosen from 302 works (submitted in spring) by the jury. Jury this time consists from ordinary people not from professionals – Kristaps Ezeriņš, Ļubova Fintjugova, Aiga Freimane, Jānis Hadkevics, Eva Ikstena, Jānis Kārlis Krievs, Andrejs Ļebedevs, Viktors Runtulis, Remigijus Skersis and Vita Šmite.

In Quadrennial with their own works are participating such foreign artists as Agata Erlacher (Lithuania), Bartlomiej Struzik (Poland), Daan Roosegaarde (Netherlands), Kai Schiemenz (Germany), Lenka Klodova (The Czech Republic), Ludwika Ogorzelec (Poland/France), Maarten Vanden Eynde (Netherlands), Marc Schmitz(Germany), Maria Rebecca Ballestra (Italy), Mark Claire (Ireland), Rita Beiks and Norman G. Spence(Canada) and Sven Kalden(Germany). Latvian artists are Kirils Panteļejevs, Egons Peršēvics and Kārlis Īle.

Sculpture Quadrennial RIGA 2008 activities are directed to actualize marginal zones, directed to encourage periphery and centre cooperation, researching historical inertia of peripheral zones and centre aspiration following culture variety in the New Europe culture space.
