Today many biennials have a focus on the encouragement of public engagement and pedagogy. Various biennials create in the local context a site of public participation that is not only periodical, but also permanent. Can biennials be regarded as visible sites of informal education? If so, in which tools of cultural mediation should they invest, and what can be the results?

After five editions, the Marrakech Biennale is witnessing a new momentum. It is keen both to question and to reflect on its circumstances, and also to invite international colleagues to take part in a critical analysis. Looking at practices on different sites: a dialogue about the biennials of Sharjah, Istanbul, Dakar and Marrakech.
