General Assembly

The International Biennial Association is accepting bids to host the 3rd General Assembly in 2016. Members interested in hosting the event are invited to submit their proposals to the IBA Office by June 1, 2015.

The General Assembly is the IBA’s largest event of the year, and is a gathering of artists, curators, critics, scholars and other professionals related to the world of periodic art events. It is typically scheduled to coincide with the opening of one of our member biennials and includes a public conference program.

Those interested in hosting should send a single PDF file that includes:

Proposal

  • A tentative public program (e.g., a conference, summit, lecture series, etc) with proposed list of speakers. Program should span 3-4 days and include approximate dates. The IBA prefers a time in Spring 2016.
  • Available facilities for the General Assembly, with information on location and capacity.

Budget

  • An estimate of financial support for the event. This can include commitments from your institution, donations from other cultural organizations or other grants. Budgets for past General Assemblies have ranged from 60,000 euros to 100,000 euros.
  • Possibility to provide participation grants to members located in emerging markets and developing economies.

Letter of Support

  • Letter from your institution detailing support, including names of staff members who will be engaged in the organization of the General Assembly.

Proposals will be narrowed down to three finalists by the IBA Board in early June. The general membership will then vote for their selection. The candidate with the majority vote will host the 3rd General Assembly.
