The 1st Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art announces the inaugural iteration of Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art—the largest-ever survey of art produced across the country—on Thursday March 9, 2017.

In preparation for this ground-breaking project, Garage curators have embarked on a comprehensive research program, travelling to more than forty cities across Russia’s eight regions. As a result, more than sixty artists will be presenting work made between 2012 and 2016, while hundreds of others will be included in Garage’s new Triennial web portal dedicated to Russian contemporary art.

Launching during the year that marks the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, the Triennial captures the zeitgeist of the newest generations of practitioners in the country, offering a fresh perspective on social and cultural tendencies from a place that is largely unknown for contemporary art. Just as the Revolution encouraged the formation of Russia’s first Avant Garde, Garage is looking to spur the next.

To mark the occasion Garage Museum of Contemporary Art is developing a program of events for international museum groups and VIPs that will not only introduce visitors to many of the artists emerging in Russia today, but also provide access to numerous art venues and cultural leaders in Moscow. Should you and your party wish to extend your visit in Moscow, or travel to St. Petersburg or another Russian city, Garage team can also provide information and support for these arrangements.
