The second edition of Bergen Assembly takes place in 2016. However, Norway’s most exciting art event kicks off already on December 1st, 2014.

Meet Bergen Assembly 2016

The kick off coincides with a visit by the next edition’s artistic leadership, arriving in Bergen to present themselves and to share their thoughts for the coming edition.

The Artistic Directors also wish to become familiar with Bergen: the city, its artists, art institutions, and the interested audience. Therefore, December 2nd is reserved as an opportunity to receive your input. What do you expect from the next edition?

Monday, December 1st at 18:30

The evening will be opened by Mayor of Bergen, Trude Drevland, and followed by presentations from each of the artistic leaders. Irit Rogoff, Nora Sternfeld, and Stefano Harney from freethought, Rhea Dall and Kristine Siegel from PRAXES Center for Contemporary Art, and Tarek Atoui.

freethought came together in 2011 as a loose collective of six people (Irit Rogoff, Louis Moreno, Stefano Harney, Adrian Heathfield, Massimilliano Mollon, and Nora Sternfeld) with various backgrounds including art, economics, music, anthropology, and education. The group combines intellectual work with creative practice and large-scale public organization.

Rhea Dall and Kristine Siegel run PRAXES Center for Contemporary Art. They founded the Berlin-based project in August 2013, developing a concept based on half-year cycles of consecutive exhibition modules with on-going exhibitions, publications, and live events. Within this framework, the duo has presented the artistic practices of Gerard Byrne, Jutta Koether, Judith Hopf, Falke Pisano, Christina Mackie, and Matt Mullican.

Having studied sound art and electro-acoustic music, Tarek Atoui served as artistic director in 2008 of STEIM (STudio for Electro Instrumental Music) in Amsterdam, a center for the research and development of new electronic musical instruments since 1969. Atoui has presented works internationally including at Performa 11, New York (2011), dOCUMENTA 13, Kassel (2012), Serpentine Gallery, London (2012), Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm (2012–2013), and the 8th Berlin Biennale (2014).

Doors open at 18:30 and the presentations start at 19:00. Parts of the event will be held in English. Refreshments and some light finger foods will be served. After the presentations and conversation, we would like to round off the evening with informal socializing. The bar will be open and DJ Admir Kenan will provide the musical atmosphere.

All are welcome!
