“Looking at the past to build the future” is the theme of the XVIII Biennial of Cerveira, which will present 300 artists from 33 countries, and about 500 artworks.

The XVIII Biennial of Cerveira will carry out an identification of the knowledge and traditions of the region, so as to provide solutions of contemporary identification leading to a focus on the dialogue of the creative artists with the history and knowledge of the means in which they are inscribed geographically.

The format, adopted since the first Biennial, will be maintained in accordance with the purpose that this event aims since 1978: a meeting place to debate and research contemporary art, in a cooperative program with the neighboring Galicia and the Higher Education in an European level.

The program, which is still provisional, involves: International Competition; representation of 13 universities, colleges and polytechnics of artistic areas, with presentation of artistic research departments and the productions of students and professors; national and international curatorships; Honored Artists (Alcino Soutinho, Dacos and Eurico Gonçalves); Conferences and Debates; Ateliers and workshops; guided tours; light shows and indoor and outdoor sound; a Drive-in, among others.

Also noteworthy, the participation of the Greek artist Danae Stratou, which presents a video work with Yanis Varoufakis texts and also the artist Margarida Reis that will expose part of her remarkable artistic work in the area of tapestry.
