Open Call for Ukrainian Curators

 

IZOLYATSIA (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Delfina Foundation (London, UK) are pleased to announce a partnership providing a Ukrainian curator a special opportunity for a curatorial and management position with IZOLYATSIA in Kyiv, Ukraine, including a 3 month Residency Program with DELFINA FOUNDATION in London, UK.

The goal of the open call is to select a Ukrainian curator, who will spend an initial 3 week internship period with IZOLYATSIA in Kyiv, familiarising themselves with the cultural platform’s mission and activities with the future aim to focus on curatorial research activities, including development of the database of Ukrainian artists, cooperation with Ukrainian and international art scene, residencies and exhibition projects. Stage 2 is a three-month residency, from January 19 – April 4, 2016, at Delfina Foundation in London (supported by IZOLYATSIA). IZOLYATSIA INTERNSHIP, Kyiv: December 1-18, 2015.
Delfina Residency, London: January 19 – April 4, 2016.
IZOLYATSIA CURATORIAL PAID POSITION: April 18, 2016 – March 1, 2017, with potential to be continued upon agreement of both parties.

Requirements:
Ukrainian citizen, currently living and working in Ukraine;
Interest in IZOLYATSIA’s philosophy and mission;
Excellent curatorial, management, leadership, and communication skills;
Dedicated interest further develop your curatorial practice and apply it to a growing cultural platform;
Proficiency in English.

Applicants are expected to submit:

The completed application form
A CV detailing recent projects, exhibitions, workshops and residencies – up to 800 words
Curators’ statement – your goals, how an international residency may benefit your career development, and why you are interested in the position with IZOLYATSIA
At least 10 high-quality images of your previous projects or exhibitions, which could include unrealised proposals

Deadline for applications: 22 November 2015. Applicants will be notified of the panel’s decision in late November 2015.

RESIDENCY

During the residency, Delfina Foundation (DF) will develop a loosely structured series of events and activities enabling residents to:

Research and develop areas of interest
Develop skills via training and mentoring
Access information and resources through independent study, field trips and workshops
Participate in both internal and external/public events

This opportunity is open to both emerging and established curators. In the selection process, preference will be given to those who demonstrate how the residency will provide the greatest opportunity for their practice and how they will contribute back to the Ukrainian art scene in collaboration with IZOLYATSIA.

The selected curator will receive:
A twelve-week residency in London, including one return, economy-class flight, and a living allowance for food/per diems and materials;
A single bedroom at DF with shared facilities, such as the laundry room, kitchen, and dining room;
Opportunities to engage in the art scene in UK through structured and independent time and activities; and
Access to a programme of planned group activities and visits to cultural organisations in the UK.

Employment at IZOLYATSIA as a Curator

Position description
IZOLYATSIA’s curator is responsible for curatorial and administrative tasks including Ukrainian art scene research, exhibition research, planning and executing programs and events; managing contacts and correspondence; writing catalogs and exhibition documentation.

Duties and responsibilities
Conduct curatorial research for exhibitions and publications.
Work with Ukrainian artists to compile a database on contemporary Ukrainian art scene.
Create exhibition design and assist with its execution.
Outsource traveling exhibitions to be hosted at IZOLYATSIA.
Obtain permission and copyright clearance for traveling exhibitions.
Write and edit exhibition descriptions, wall texts, newsletters and website content.
Assist with administrative and logistics duties needed for artist/curator visits including arranging honoraria, travel, lodging, meals and any event-related logistics.

ABOUT IZOLYATSIA

IZOLYATSIA, the cultural platform founded in Donetsk until military occupation and exile, relocated to Kyiv in June 2014, presenting projects from its base there as well as throughout Ukraine and the world.
