International Biennial of Contemporary Art of Cartagena de Indias.

The Biennial is created with the idea of further enhancing Cartagena as a center for the arts by incorporating the visual arts along with the existing presence of music, literature, and film, and other cultural manifestations already emblematic to the city, for the cultural enrichment of the community

The Biennial brings together artists from different countries whose works will be exhibited throughout the city of Cartagena, including painting, sculpture, photography, electronic and audiovisual media, installation and performance. In conjunction with the Biennial there is a rigorous academic program of forums, discussions, workshops and site visits to local artists’ studios, among others.

Founded in 1533, Cartagena de Indias is a colonial town located in the center of the northeastern coast of Colombia. Surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, Cartagena has received a unique and interesting confluence of influences over its 500-year history that include pre-Columbian native Aboriginal, Spanish, African and Arab cultures. It is rich in multicultural folklore, and widely considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the Caribbean.
