Solar Initiative wins a Red Dot Award for the corporate identity of World Biennial Forum No.1.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world. The international jury evaluated 6,800 entries this year from 43 countries and rewarded the best with the desired quality characteristic.

The most notable, creative projects were awarded a Red Dot Communication Design Award 2013. Recognition for the work of the project involves the World Biennial Forum No.1, within the subcategory Design & Corporate Identity. Solar Initiative developed the identity and the various means of communication, including program booklets, pamphlets, posters, stationary and a book.

The World Biennial Forum No.1 is an initiative of the Biennial Foundation. This international convention about practical and topical issues in the field provides the international biennial community with a global platform for discussion and exchange. World Biennial Forum No. 1 with the thematic title ‘Shifting Gravity’ is the first international biennial conference for professionals. It was hosted and co-organized by the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea, and co-directed by international curators Ute Meta Bauer and Hou Hanru.

The Dutch Design Agency Solar Initiative was commissioned to develop the identity of the first edition of the forum. The design concept was based on a blue circle as a supportive and recurring element in all communications.

The circle can be seen as an abstraction of the world and a metaphor for the binding force of the World Biennial Forum No.1 for art biennials worldwide. A clean and serene identity was developed in a simple but powerful concept. Sang Blue was used for the headings and Prestige Elite for the body text. The subtle, transparent look and feel of the corporate identity reflects the character of the World Biennial Forum No. 1 as an informal meeting point and place for discussion with an open attitude to participants from various backgrounds and disciplines.

The awards will be presented at the ceremony on October 18, 2013 in the Konzerthaus Berlin. The awarded works will also be presented in an exhibition as well as online on: www.red-dot.de. In addition, the works will be presented in the Red Dot International Yearbook Communication Design 2013/2014.
