The new media specialist Vincenzo Trione has been chosen to organise the Italian pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale.

Curator: Vincenzo Trione

Vincenzo Trione is the professor of art and new media, and the vice-president of the faculty of arts, tourism and markets at the IULM communications university in Milan. At 42, he is the youngest curator ever chosen for the Italian pavilion. He previously organised the 2003 Rome Quadriennale and exhibitions at Italian and European museums, including “Post-Classics: the Revival of Antiquity in Contemporary Italian Art” at the Roman Forum and Palatine in 2013, “Salvador Dalí” at the Palazzo Reale in 2010, Milan and “Confines/Valencia 09: Passages of Contemporary Arts” at IVAM, Valencia in 2009.

The other curators shortlisted for the Italian pavilion were: Mario Codognato, the chief curator of the Belvedere, Vienna; Cristina Collu, the director of the Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto; Lorenzo Giusti, the director of the Museo d’Arte Provincia di Nuoro; Gianfranco Maraniello, the director of the Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna; Letizia Ragaglia, the director of Museion, Bolzano; Francesco Stocchi, the chief curator of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam; and Andrea Viliani, the director of the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina, Naples.
